KENT—TradesUp raised $15,195 through a recent fundraiser in partnership with the Fine Homebuilding’s Keep Craft Alive initiative and Andersen Windows & Doors.
TradesUp was recognized for the successful campaign at the Fine Homebuilding Summit on Thursday, Aug. 20. Funds raised will support TradesUp’s mission of introducing young people to the skilled trades through hands-on events, workshops and educational opportunities.
Based in Kent, TradesUp is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building the next generation of hands-on creators, makers and tradespeople.
Annually, it invites the region’s leading trades and artisanal crafts professionals to share their expertise and enthusiasm with hundreds of young people during SPARK, a day-long event. The program is offered in both Martha’s Vineyard and Kent, with the Kent program planned this year for Oct. 24., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Eric Sloane Museum and the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association, 31 Kent Cornwall Road.
This event will take place rain or shine.
Throughout the day, dozens of trades experts use teach participants how to create, make and problem solve with their hands—from learning the proper and safe way to use a hammer to patching drywall and wiring a lamp.
SPARK Kent is open to all ages but is targeted towards aged 5 to 13.
