Those who built and sustained Templeton Farm to be remembered

KENT, Conn.—The plaque on the bench outside the Kent Senior Center reads “Honoring the residents, staff, board members and others who have made Templeton Farm a haven since 1976.”

The “People and Places of Kent” program on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. will honor and remember many of those people, including Lisl Standen, a founder; longtime board president Amos Jennings; board president Marge Anderson; resident Phyllis Foster; residents “Big Bill and Bobbie” and many others.

Those attending the program will be invited to share their memories of these and any others associated with Templeton Farm’s long history since community leaders started to imagine the possibility of dedicated, affordable senior housing in Kent in the early 1970s.

The Nov.18 program is a follow-up to the 50th anniversary celebration hosted by the board of Kent Village Housing for the Elderly on Oct. 18.

The “People and Places of Kent” programs are now held quarterly at the Kent Senior Center and are co-sponsored by the Kent Historical Society.

Prior programs have included a presentation by Elissa Potts when the Fife ‘n’ Drum celebrated its 50th anniversary; the history of Davis IGA by Gary Davis and others. Participants are encouraged to share ideas for future programs.

The Kent Senior Center is located in the Templeton Farm Barn at 16 Swift Lane. Programs are open to seniors 62 and older and their caregivers. Advance registration is requested by calling 860-927-1586 or emailing ssassist@townofkentct.gov.
