Inspired by the success of South Kent’s Parent Association, this program invites neighbors, business owners, civic leaders and local supporters to engage with the life of the school and its mission.

“South Kent School is part of the fabric of Kent,” said Lara Barrett, director of external affairs. “The goal of Friends of South Kent is to inspire greater opportunity between our students and the broader community, offering mentorship and experiences that draw from the wealth of talent—the artists, writers, academics, musicians, chefs, entrepreneurs, business-owners—who call this unique area of New England their home.”

Through Friends of South Kent, community members can participate in a range of activities—from mentoring students and speaking at a Pathways Series career panel to attending athletic competitions, student showcases and North Campus celebrations. Members will receive exclusive updates and invitations to events such as Community Day and Open House gatherings, Alumni Weekend events and Senior Day athletic events, Pathways panels and student exhibitions, and seasonal traditions such as Thriller on Halloween.

The initiative also supports strategic partnerships with local organizations including the Kent Chamber of Commerce, Kent Park and Recreation, Kent Lions Club, CERT, Kent Land Trust and the Kent Historical Society.

Friends of South Kent is open to local families, professionals, alumni, volunteers and anyone who supports the development of young people through education, athletics and service. The school is actively seeking nominations and referrals to help grow this dynamic network.
