NEW YORK CITY—Kathleen “Kit” Fitzgerald of New York City, sister of Ann Fitzgerald-Dunn of Kent, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family, following a valiant battle against a rare and aggressive cancer.
A pioneering video artist, educator, and television director, her professional work is included in the collections of major museums internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Kit was born and raised in Springfield, Mass. She attended Holy Cross Grammar School, graduated as class valedictorian from Cathedral High School in 1971, and graduated from Smith College in 1975.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Gordon, and their son, Maximilian Gordon, both of NYC. She also leaves behind nine siblings, Ann and her husband, Edward; John of Dedham, Mass.; Edward (Susan) of Chatham, Mass.; Andrew (Nancy) of Medfield, Mass.; Frances Brian (Douglas) of Ipswich, Mass.; Daniel (Maureen) of Needham, Mass.; Martha Huebner (Geoff) of Old Lyme, Conn.; William (Maura) of Medfield; and Paul (Kelli) of Needham. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Joshua Gordon (Roberta) of Kernville, Calif., and Alexander Gordon (Kimberly) of Los Angeles, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John E. and Frances A. Fitzgerald.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at 11a.m. at Christ the King Church in Old Lyme.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kit’s honor to a local arts group.
