KENT, Conn.—Five Kent residents who served in the Peace Corps in the 1960s and 1970s will speak at the Kent Senior Center Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. as part of the “People and Places of Kent” series co-sponsored by the Kent Senior Center and Kent Historical Society.

Presenters include Barbara Psarakis, Barbara and Denis Curtis, Irene Coe, and Catherine Bachrach, who served in Cameroon, Fiji, Honduras, and Turkey.

They will speak about what motivated them to join the Peace Corps, their experiences and the impact of Peace Corps service on their lives, as well as respond to questions from those attending.

The Peace Corps was established in March 1961, when President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order only a few months after his inauguration, and was authorized by Congress the following September when it passed the Peace Corps Act.
