KENT, Conn.—Audrey Cole, program coordinator for Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) from the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, will lead a group discussion on the latest Medicare frauds affecting local communities Thursday, May 22, at 5:30 p.m. at Kent Memorial Library.

This group event will empower participants and their family members to protect confidential banking information and health care accounts and learn to detect and report suspected improper or suspect behaviors.
A Q/A session will follow.
Topics to be discussed include how to protect oneself or loved ones from financial exploitation; how Medicare fraud, abuse or error is defined; why victims are reluctant to report the fraud; the most common types of banking and Medicare scams, and who to contact or where to report suspected frauds and scams.
Health care fraud drains billions of dollars out of victims’ pockets every year. Medicare is one of the leading programs within the federal government where the loss is extremely high.
