BROOKFIELD, Conn.—Sen. Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield), who represents the 30th District, which includes Kent, has been awarded a 100 percent grade by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) for his votes this year on issues impacting the state’s business community.

CBIA represents thousands of large and small employers in the Connecticut. One of its primary functions is its annual legislative scorecard and its determination of how friendly legislators are to the business community.
Harding has supported proposals to reduce income taxes and property taxes for working families. He offered a plan to remove the hidden public benefits tax on electric bills and supported tax relief for seniors and veterans, paying down on the state’s credit card debt, and abiding by the state government’s spending and borrowing caps.
He was elected to his first term in the State Senate in 2022 after four terms representing the 107th House District. The 30th State Senate District is the largest geographically in the state, comprising the communities of Bethlehem, Brookfield, Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Fairfield, New Milford, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Sherman, Torrington, Warren, Washington and Winchester.
He was named Senate Minority Leader in February of 2024.
Lawmakers were judged based on their support for policies that create jobs and bring businesses to Connecticut, as well as their opposition to burdensome mandates.
“As state senator, my focus is on working to improve the quality of life for everyone,” Harding said. “I am trying to make Connecticut more affordable by lowering taxes and electricity bills, protecting your wallets through fiscally responsible policies, and protecting vital human services for our most vulnerable residents. This score makes me want to work even harder to lessen burdens on job creators and working families.”
