KENT, Conn.—From Beethoven to Bluegrass, from Rhapsody in Blue to up-and-coming composers—for more than four decades, Sherman Ensemble artistic director Eliot Bailen’s creative vision has engaged audiences throughout the region.

On Friday, Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Kent’s St. Andrew’s Church, 1 North Main St., the group will present “What Makes Music American,” exploring that question through the works of four remarkable composers—Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók and Ernő Dohnányi—whose music became part of the American story. The four composers had different journeys, but all contributed to the American musical legacy.

The concert will be repeated Saturday, Sept. 5, also at 7:30 p.m., at St. John’s Episcopal Church on the Green in New Milford.

Tickets can be purchased here.
