KENT, Conn. — After a month of intensive training, Kent CERT has wrapped up with a final hands-on practical session and graduation at the Kent firehouse.
The last training was held Saturday, Oct. 17, with a focus on PPE and fire extinguisher use. It was followed by a little more classroom work, then a graduation ceremony.
Led by John Field, fire chief of the Winchester Fire Department and longtime regional emergency management leader, the recent training prepared participants with valuable skills to help their community during emergencies.
First Selectman Eric Epstein shared a message with the nearly 20 CERT volunteers at the start of the training.
“Thank you for all you’re doing for the town of Kent,” Epstein said in a recorded video shared by Peter Lewine, Kent CERT coordinator. “You’re going to be a great asset to the town of Kent.”
“We’ll meet soon to talk about the next steps,” Epstein said.
Following the message, volunteers unpacked their PPE backpack before heading outdoors to practice using a fire extinguisher.
Later, they reviewed work in a classroom setting and then celebrated the conclusion of their training with a graduation ceremony.
