SHERMAN, Conn.—During its members meeting Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Sherman Artists Association (SAA) heard a presentation by the Sherman Art Center Committee explaining its vision of a Sherman Art Center and the value it would have for the community.
At present, the association does not have space to meet the demand for local art opportunities or to give classes or workshops. Art exhibits, events and meetings are held in borrowed spaces, conforming to the different locations’ schedules. Some venues charge rental fees and the group relies heavily on volunteers to provide set-up at the different locations. The association’s documents, art panels and supplies, items saved for art supplies tag sales, and the like, are stored in homes, garages and basements.
The committee reported enthusiastic support for developing an arts center in the town.
During the meeting, updates were provided regarding the August Light 2026 Art Show in Kent, which drew more than 250 visitors. The more than 110 artworks ranged from the abstract to impressionism, from lifelike to incredible watercolor landscapes, as well as glass fused plates and ceramic tea sets and the like.
The upcoming Happy Acres Farm Day, 2 Taber Road, Sherman, is planned for Oct. 3, 11- 4 p.m. Sherman Artists members are creating artwork inspired by farm life and the countryside. Artists deadline for artwork submission is Sunday, Sept. 20, shermanartists@gmail.com.
