KENT, Conn.—The Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy (NCLC) has announced a number of upcoming events that are free and open to the public.

The NCLC and Sherman Library have joined forces for a Spring Story Walk! that is available through Friday, May 8, at Mallory Preserve in Sherman. A story walk places pages of a children’s book along a popular walking trail in a community and are a way for families to spend time outside together while encouraging a love of reading.
The Mallory Preserve experience allows children to explore the trail while reading “The Everything Trail” by Meg Fleming.
No registration is required for this is a self-guided adventure.
The Mallory Preserve trailhead is located at the Sherman Town Green, Route 39 N, at the IGA Plaza, in Sherman.
The next event is Meet Your Greens at the White Hart Inn, 15 Under Mountain Road, in Salisbury on Thursday, April 30, from 5 to 7 p.m.
No reservations or RSVPs are necessary to join local conservation organizations for a meet-up with others who care about protecting Connecticut’s lands and waters. The free, casual event is open to the public.

It is co-hosted by NCLC, Cornwall Conservation Trust, Housatonic Valley Association, Salisbury Association Land Trust, Sharon Audubon Center, and Sharon Land Trust. Attendees purchase their own drinks. Light refreshments will be provided.
The NCLC and the Connecticut Audubon Society join forces for a bird walk Saturday, May 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Komlo Preserve in New Fairfield. The preserve’s wetlands, pond and forested landscape attract a wide variety of bird species. Registration is required.
Komlo Preserve is 130 CT-37, New Fairfield. Admission is free.

Nature lovers and trail explorers alike are invited Thursday, June 4, 6 to 7 p.m. to discover Sherman’s many miles of walking trails during an evening at the Sherman Library devoted to local hiking opportunities.
Learn about several favorite trails, with highlights from local conservation organizations on what makes these walks special—from peaceful woodland paths to scenic views and hidden natural gems.
It is co-hosted by Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy (NCLC), the Connecticut Audubon Society’s Deer Pond Farm, Great Hollow Nature Preserve, the Sherman Conservation Commission, and the Sherman Library. Admission is free but registration is required. The library is located at 1 Sherman Center.
Celebrate Connecticut Trails Day with the NCLC staff on a guided hike at Birch Rocks Preserve Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A rain date of June 7 is set.
The easy, rolling walk winds through quiet woodland and gradually leads toward the shoreline of Lake Lillinonah. The trail descends close to the lake—without disturbing sensitive wildlife habitat—providing excellent views while protecting an important foraging area for otters, mink, eagles, and osprey.
Along the way, hikers will pass through spruce and white pine plantations, mature groves of hemlock and dogwood, and cross seasonal brooks.
Birch Rocks Preserve is located at 40A Obtuse Road North.
