KENT, Conn. — High Watch Recovery Center will present the Connecticut Substance Use Disorder Symposium Friday, July 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is a gathering of healthcare providers and professionals who provide SUD prevention and treatment services to clients and patients, including people with or at risk for HIV.
The symposium is in-person only and will be held at High Watch, 62 Carter Road.
The event will consist of three CME-Accredited presentations, networking opportunities, a free lunch provided by High Watch Recovery Center, and the chance to interact with subject-matter expert presenters.
Leading medical experts Haner Hernandez, Ph.D., CPS, CADCH, LADCI, who is senior consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Health and a faculty member at the New England School of Addiction Studies, and Dr. Gregory Boris, senior vice president of medical affairs at High Watch will be the guest speakers.
Presentation themes will include understanding and supporting the stages of wellness and recovery; the power of belief, the neurobiology of addiction and abstinence-based recovery; and multiple pathways of wellness and recovery.
A variety of topics will be addressed: harm reduction/safe injection, linkage to care, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, substance use disorders, opioid use disorder, health literacy, low English proficiency, stigma or discrimination, case management, community linkages, care coordination, funding or resource allocation, organizational infrastructure, and organizational needs assessment.
The program is presented in collaboration with High Watch, the AIDS Education & Training Center Program, the Opioid Response Network, and Continuing Medical Education.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the first presentation at 11 a.m.
