Deborah “Debbie” Rodger, age 67, of Kent passed away unexpectedly at her home on July 2, 2026.
Born on Jan. 16, 1959, in Danbury, Debbie was one of 12 children born to the late Sue and Douglas A. Rodger of New Milford.
She attended New Milford Public Schools and dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a housekeeper at New Milford Hospital, served as a home health aide, and spent many years as a compassionate caregiver.
Her final place of employment was Morning Star Retirement Home in Kent, where her kindness and dedication touched the lives of many. Over the years, Debbie and her beloved husband, Calvin Deicke, made their home in Waterville, N.Y., Gaylordsville, Falls Village, and finally Kent.
Debbie was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She had a true gift for cooking and was known for preparing delicious meals that brought everyone together.
Debbie was a cookbook and recipe enthusiast; she could cook anything, especially her famous cheesecakes. Whether gathering for holidays or sharing an everyday meal, Debbie made everyone feel welcome and at home.
She also enjoyed the birds and her flower gardens. Debbie found immense happiness in spending time with her grandson, Barrett, cherishing their afternoons together. Being a grandmother was one of the greatest blessings of her life, and the love she had for Barrett was immeasurable.
Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Calvin Deicke of Kent; her daughter, Sara D’Iorio and her husband, Brian D’Iorio; her cherished grandson, Barrett D’Iorio; her son, Shaun Rodger of Palm Coast, Fla.; and several other grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, Christine Wilson of Sidney, N.Y.; Wayne C. Rodger and his wife, Pam, of Lewis, N.Y.; Diane MacDonald and her husband, Denny, of Oriskany Falls, N.Y.; Dale Hanna and her husband, Bob, of New Milford; Gary M. Rodger of Summerville, S.C.; Daniel Rodger of Palm Coast, Fla.; Sally Rodger of Torrington; and Robin Rodger, also of Torrington.Â
Debbie also leaves behind 22 beloved nieces and nephews, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Debbie was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael Rodger of Torrington; her sister, Donna Bahr of Hastings, Fla.; and her brothers, Douglas Rodger Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla., and James Rodger of New Milford.
Debbie’s warmth, generosity and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always. Her home was a place of comfort, her table was always full, and her heart was open to everyone she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Debbie’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or another diabetes foundation of the donor’s choice.
