LAKEVILLE, Conn.—Camp Sloane YMCA will continue its partnership with the Region 1 School District to provide a summer camp scholarship for a student from each school in the district, helping to ensure more young people have access to the summer camp.

Through this initiative, Camp Sloane YMCA will work with school leaders across Region 1 to identify students who would benefit from attending a session of camp. Each selected student will receive a scholarship to attend Camp Sloane YMCA’s summer sleepaway camp program, where they will have the opportunity to explore the outdoors, build friendships, develop confidence and grow in independence.
Summer camp experiences are widely recognized for helping young people strengthen social skills, resilience, teamwork and leadership. By partnering with Region 1 schools, Camp Sloane YMCA hopes to expand access to these opportunities for local families while strengthening the connection between the camp and surrounding communities.
“Summer camp has the power to change a young person’s life,” said Rhino Merrick, camp director at Camp Sloane YMCA. “Through this partnership with the Region 1 School District, we’re able to ensure that more students can experience the confidence, friendships and sense of belonging that camp provides. We’re grateful to the district for working alongside us to make these opportunities possible and to help more young people discover what they’re capable of.”
