SHARON, Conn.—Dr. Alex Mosteanu is the new system chair of primary care at Nuvance Health.
In his new role, he will lead more than 100 clinicians across 34 practices in the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut.Â

He is the former regional medical director for Primary Care–Nuvance Health East. Dr. Mosteanu succeeds Dr. Alan Kurose, who was interim chair of primary care since June 2024.
In his new role, Dr. Mosteanu will oversee all aspects of primary care services, which includes family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, concierge medicine, sports medicine, and integrated behavioral health.
He will work with leadership to drive strategic initiatives to help better the community, such as expanding the primary care workforce and launching a family medicine residency program at New Milford Hospital, which is set to begin in July.
A graduate of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest, Romania, Dr. Mosteanu completed his internal medicine residency at Yale University’s School of Medicine through training at Danbury Hospital, where he also served as chief resident.
He briefly served as a primary care physician and assistant professor of medicine at the University of Virginia before returning to Nuvance Health as medical director of the primary care office in Ridgefield.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Mosteanu is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Vermont School of Medicine and has completed advanced leadership training through Nuvance Health’s leadership training program and Northwell Health’s physician leadership development program.
Dr. Mosteanu’s leadership role will include expanding primary care at Nuvance Health and helping enhance access to high-quality care for the community.
