TORRINGTON, Conn.—Warm the Children, a program dedicated to providing new winter clothing and footwear for children in need throughout Northwest Connecticut, is seeking community support for its 2025 campaign.

Each year, local social service agencies identify families in need, and the program relies entirely on the generosity of donors. Donations fund a shopping experience where volunteer shoppers help families select new winter clothing and footwear for their children. Each child receives up to $80 in clothing (up to $60 for children age 4 and younger).
Children in need are identified by local organizations including the Vogel Family Resource Center, the Salvation Army in Winsted, Winsted Area Child Care, FISH NWCT, Susan B. Anthony Project, Pleasant Valley Children’s Center, and Canaan Child Care.
The Warm the Children volunteer committee, led by Co-Chairs Maura Malo of Northwest Community Bank and Deirdre DiCara of FISH NWCT, along with Dan Santorso of FISH and Lisa Ferris of United Way of NWCT, is encouraging donations to help bring warmth to children this winter. Founded in the 1980s, Warm the Children has grown to serve 27 communities across the U.S., supporting children in need each winter.
Donations can be made online by going to northwestunitedway.org, selecting “Donate,” and under “Donor Designation,” choosing “Warm the Children.” Checks payable to “United Way” with “Warm the Children” in the memo line can also be mailed to mailed to PO Bo 1001, Torrington, CT 06790.
All donations go directly to purchasing new winter clothing—there are no administrative fees.
