KENT, Conn.—A town meeting scheduled for Friday night, July 24, at 7 p.m. in town hall will ask voters to act on six ordinances.
Among the actions to be considered is repeal of a section governing membership on the Inland Wetlands Commission and substitution of a new section that would allow town employees to serve on the commission.
Another action would expand the prohibition of pushing snow into public rights of way to include leaves and other debris, while a third ordinance, which established the Cemetery Committee, would be amended to add two more cemeteries to its care. The Morehouse Family Cemetery and Parcells Family Cemetery were discovered after the original ordinance was passed.
Voters will also decide whether to prohibit food trucks in town other than on private land for private events. The vendors would be prohibited from selling directly to customers at private events. However, a provision would allow food trucks to be on town-owned land for special community events sponsored by organizations such as Parks and Recreation.
In other business, voters will act on a change to the wording of an ordinance restricting commercial bus traffic on Spooner Hill and Bulls Bridge roads. The change would allow the selectmen to override the restriction if the state shuts down Route 7, Route 341, or both.
Finally, the town will present an ordinance offering tax exemptions for veterans with a service-connected total disability.
The town clerk has posted full texts of the ordinances and, upon request, will make copies available.Â
Ordinances adopted at the town meeting will become effective 15 days after publication in a newspaper with circulation in the town.
