SHERMAN, Conn.—The Sherman Library will hold an exhibit of paintings by Lisa Deloria Weinblatt titled “School Lunch Series” from Friday, May 8, through Wednesday, June 10.

“School Lunch” is a visual essay of contemporary student life, created from drawings made on-site in educational settings.
The opening reception and artist talk will be Friday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Artwork from the show will also be featured on the Sherman Library website.
Weinblatt is a figurative painter whose imagery is based on direct observation, memory, and personal experience. These paintings explore current social cultural issues in the shared experience of school lunch.
Weinblatt has been invited on campuses as a resident/visiting artist, an opportunity that allows her access to a wide scope of activities to record. She makes 10- to 15-minute graphite/pastel pencil likenesses reflecting the atmosphere and tone of the environment. Each individual is drawn in the moment, an actual person. The drawings are then translated into finished paintings.
“School Lunch” underlines perceptions that affirm cultural identity, bring together ideas espousing contemporary social, gender and political concerns while encouraging a belief in the quality of human spirit.
Weinblatt received her M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts, NYC, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Queens College/CUNY. She has participated in exhibits funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and has exhibited in more than 100 group exhibitions in museums, colleges, libraries and art centers across the USA.
The library, located at 1 Sherman Center, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
