LITCHFIELD, Conn.—Route 202 over Still Brook will be closed from Monday, June 16, until the end of August, while Dayton Construction Company replaces the bridge east of Merritt Clarke’s in Litchfield, approximately 0.5 miles west of the intersection with Route 209.
Constructed in 1928, the existing structure is a single-span concrete slab bridge, approximately 15 feet long. The deteriorating concrete deck slab sits on masonry abutments. As of 2015, average daily traffic was measured at 7,300 vehicles per day with 6 percent of that being truck traffic. A routine inspection report in 2021 assigned a rating of 4, or poor, to the superstructure, which has deteriorated to a current rating of 5 in 2022.
Work started in early May and crews have worked to get as much done as possible prior to implementing a detour, which goes into effect June 16.
