KENT, Conn.—Registration is now open for the Kent Historical Society’s summer camps.
Campers ages 6 to 12 will explore the visual arts and history in weekly camps starting in July at Seven Hearths Museum located at 4 Studio Hill Road.
All camps are held in the Art Barn and the historic 1751 Seven Hearths House.
The art camps—Art through History and Art in the Garden—will be led by teaching artist Shannon Blanton while Historical Society Executive Director Christine Jewell will teach the History Camp.
Art Through History will be held July 7 through 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for ages 6 to 8, and 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 8 to 12.
Students will learn about art by exploring a variety of skills and techniques inspired by historical methods such as drawing patterns with dots to create Tin Hole Punch designs or creating marbled paper for bookmaking.
Art in the Garden will be held from July 21 to 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for ages 6 to 8 and 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 8 to 12.
Campers will learn to paint and draw en plein air using the garden and landscape of Seven Hearths as their muse. Students will learn techniques of drawing, painting and oil pastel to render the beauty of nature.
History Camp will be held July 14-18, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for children ages 8 to 12.
They will explore history through authentic objects, photographs and exhibits featured in the Seven Hearths Museum, and learn about the past through games and hands-on activities such as sewing and writing with a feather pen and ink. They will taste farm-style “gatorade” and work on creative projects such as making books and corn husk dolls.
