FALLS VILLAGE – Region 1 approved its budget of $17,690,331 for fiscal year 2024-2025 May 7 in a referendum, 274-63. The Region 1 school district serves Kent, Canaan, Falls Village, Sharon, Salisbury and Cornwall.

All of the towns approved the budget. Voting by town was:

The Region 1 budget was approved May 7 in a referendum in all six towns.

The approved budget has an increase in spending of $658,003, or 3.86 percent. The budget is composed of three parts—the regional high school, district-wide Pupil Services, which includes special education, and the Regional School Services Center, which provides administrative services throughout the district. 

Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s budget will increase $357,173, or 4.14 percent, to $8,988,991. Pupil Services will increase $250,066 or 3.7 percent to a net of $6,983,430. The adjusted RSSC budget is $1,717,910, an increase of $50,763 or 3.04 percent.

The towns are assessed for HVRHS costs based on their student populations as compared to other district communities. Kent, with 37 students at the high school, bears 12.8 percent of the high school costs in the new fiscal year, and will pay $1.4 million.
