KENT, Conn. – A Kent tradition continued Saturday, Feb. 23, when children and adults united for a Family Skate Day sponsored by Kent Memorial Library.
The library’s Parents’ Committee hosted the annual fundraiser for the Junior Room. Rosie’s Kitchen, of Kent, donated an assortment of baked goods – cupcakes, brownies and cookies to sell at the refreshment table.
In addition, representatives from the Junior Room were on hand to share information about upcoming programs.
“It’s great to see the community, and the kiddos come out and we get to talk to them and socialize with them outside of the library,” said Dorothy Shackelford, a member of the library’s children’s department staff.

Resident Anna de Rham was among the parents who brought her children, Kennedy, 11, and Cove, 8, to the event.
“I’m all for it,” de Rham said of the popular community tradition she attended when she was a child.
“It’s so nostalgic,” she reminisced. “I remember running around, being on the bleachers and running around outside. My brother and sister ice skated but I didn’t.”
“Now, my whole family comes, my aunt, my huge family,” she said.
