ARB okays solar panels for church
KENT, Conn.—The Architectural Review Board made short work Monday, July 14, of approving a new solar panel array planned for the parish house at St. Andrew’s Church.

Sarah Smith of Momentum Solar presented the plan to the board, saying the system would be on the parish house but would feed both that building and the church. It will sit only a few inches off the roof and wiring will be underneath the panels, shielding it from view.
Board members had few questions and no suggestions and soon approved the installation.
In other business, Land Use Administrator Tai Kern was asked why the owners of the new Kent Kitchen restaurant had not returned for approval of the materials they wanted to use for signage.
“The property owner decided to go with the exact materials and design that was there previously,” she said. “He did not want to upset anyone and just wanted the business to blend with others along the street.”
She told the board members that they can expect to have a busy year when the large housing project planned for open space by town hall gets underway.

Motoriot site plan again delayed
KENT, Conn.—Engineer Larry Page appeared at the last Planning and Zoning Commission meeting to update members about the pending Motoriot parking site plan.
Consideration of the plan has been repeatedly delayed and Page said it had been hoped that it could be resolved that evening.
“The owners have retained us to pull together the site plan,” said Page. “We have been waiting on information from the surveyor. We got it today [July 10], but it was just got too late for me to review it. We are working to get the issues resolved and you will have the information well in advance of the next meeting. It will be an engineered drawing rather than a sketch.”
Commission chairman Wesley Wyrick cautioned that the owners have until the August meeting to present their plan or the timeframe for action will elapse and it will have to be denied.
“They tried to do it themselves, but now we have information,” Page said. “You will have the plan well in advance.”
Land Use Administrator Tai Kern said that Motoriot now owns the property and that former owner Guy Mauri’s business is no long on the site.
