KENT, Conn.—The Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy (NCLC), a nonprofit, regional conservation organization headquartered in Kent, has planned a busy schedule of events for September and October. All events are free and open to the public.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the NCLC encourages all to Take a Walk on the Wild Side at Cobble Brook Vista, 26 Studio Hill Circle, in Kent with Robin Zitter and Michael Nadeau. Participants will learn about native plants, invasives and how plants function. Space is limited and registration is required.
The NCLC will hold its annual picnic at Milde Farm located on Town Farm Road in Litchfield, Saturday, Sept. 27., from noon to 2 p.m. when it will celebrate 60 years of land conservation. Offerings will include a free lunch, family-friendly games, outdoor activities and a sneak peek of a future nature preserve. Registration is required.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, a hike will be held at The Ledges at 5 Banquo Brae Road in Brookfiel from 10 to 11 a.m. The hike will introduce participants to the new 45-acre public nature preserve, which is located adjacent to the 116-acre Burr Farm in Brookfield. The Ledges expands access to nature and allows visitors to enjoy quiet time in nature, hiking, bird watching, and more. Registration required by emailing events@ctland.org or calling 860-927-1927, ext. 1509.
The fall schedule will end with “Meet Your Greens” at Housatonic River Brewing at 30 Kent Road, New Milford, on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and no reservations are required.
The event is co-hosted by Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy, Bridgewater Land Trust, Connecticut Audubon Deer Pond Farm, Great Hollow Nature Center, Housatonic Valley Association, Kent Land Trust and Newtown Forest Association, and offers an opportunity to get to know others working or volunteering in the conservation field.
Founded in 1965, NCLC is the largest land trust in Connecticut, protecting some 13,400 acres. To strengthen the region’s capacity to conserve high-quality conservation lands and ensure the permanence of those conserved lands for the future, NCLC merged with Brookfield Open Space Legacy in 2019 and Naromi Land Trust in 2020. NCLC’s conserved lands include 23 public hiking preserves, 49 working farms, 57 miles of rivers and streams, and over 3,000 acres of habitat for rare and endangered species.
For information about any of these events call 860-927-1927, ext. 1509.
