KENT, Conn.—The town will observe the National Day of Prayer at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Veterans Memorial.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held each May to invite people to pray for the nation. The American tradition is actually older than America itself, dating back to the Second Continental Congress, before the Declaration of Independence.

It was officially designated n 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The day is marked by prayers and reflections on a national level, with the President issuing a proclamation each year encouraging Americans to turn to God in prayer and meditation.

The State of Connecticut in accordance with the proclamation signed by Gov. Ned Lamont supports this event and encourages all to consider joining in.
