KENT, Conn.—For decades the Kent Memorial Library has raffled off a classic car each summer as a major fundraiser.
This year, expecting construction to start on its expansion, the library believed it could not hold its annual book sale or display a card and decided on a new tactic, a raffle of gift cards to Kent business.
The construction has been delayed for the summer and the book sale is underway, but the gift card raffle is still in place.
Tickets are $10 each and could garner winners a $1,500 first prize; $1,000 second prize, or $500 third prize.
The drawing will be held, as tradition dictates, on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Blvd., in conjunction with the annual Pumpkin Run.
The winners will get their choice of spending the funds at a participating Kent business or donating them to a local charity. The prize selection deadline is Nov. 30.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, spending $100 at a small business results in $48 remaining in the community. The same $100 spent at a big-box store or national retailer brings only $14 to a community. The KML supports small businesses in Kent.
Tickets can be purchased at the library located at 32 North Main St., or online here.
