KENT, Conn.—The Kent Memorial Library settled into its cozy new quarters at 10-12 Landmark Lane in Kent Green last week and staff welcomed visitors to an opening reception last Saturday, Feb. 14.

Unlike the weekend when the library staff invited guests to say goodbye to the old library, when a brisk little snowstorm kept many visitors away, the weather gods smiled on the crowd this past weekend and a steady stream of visitors flowed through the doors.
The Main Street library building is undergoing renovations and expansion. It had been hoped that construction could start in mid-February, but KML Board of Directors President Sandra Edelman said there has been a slight delay as final documents are completed. She said she expects work to start in March.

The work is expected to take about a year and will see the old library and the adjacent former firehouse joined by a new entryway. The second floor of the old firehouse will be converted to a large assembly room, and the downstairs will be devoted to stacks.
Offices and conference rooms will be created in the old section of the building and the children’s area will be renovated. The historic reading room will be preserved.

Total cost of the project is estimated at more than $7 million.

Really enjoyable to read this and see this!
