KENT, Conn.— As part of their summer internship, the Kent Land Trust’s Kelly Alisha Tobin interns, Sam and Ella, have designed and led interactive events that encourage participants to connect with the natural world through art and scientific observation.

The programs reflect the Kent Land Trust’s mission of environmental education and stewardship by offering opportunities for participants of all ages to learn, create and explore local landscapes.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Audrey and Robert Tobin Preserve they will present a guided nature walk, introducing participants to the preserve’s diverse ecosystems while exploring native tree species and identifying birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates encountered along the trail. The approximately two-mile walk follows mostly flat terrain and is designed to encourage observation, curiosity, and appreciation for local biodiversity.
Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, bring water, and pack binoculars if available.
The events they conduct are part of the Kelly Alisha Tobin Internship, which provides college students with hands-on experience in environmental education, leadership, public programming, and conservation outreach. Throughout their internship, Sam and Ella have worked alongside Kent Land Trust staff on various projects including land stewardship, data collection and developing educational programming that helps foster stronger connections between the community and the region’s natural resources.
“These programs showcase the creativity, enthusiasm, and environmental knowledge our interns have developed throughout the summer,” said Melissa Cherniske, program manager of the Kent Land Trust. “We’re excited for them to share their passion with the community through experiences that are both educational and enjoyable.”
