KENT, Conn.—The annual Summer Great Works Concert will feature Johannes Brahms’ beloved Ein deutsches Requiem, on Sunday, June 7, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Church in New Milford.

The Requiem is a large-scale work for chorus, orchestra, and soprano and baritone soloists. It was composed between 1865 and 1868 and comprises seven movements, that together last 65 to 80 minutes, making this work both Brahms’ longest composition and largest-ensemble work.Â
A German Requiem is sacred but non-liturgical and the work may have been inspired by Brahms’ grief over the 1865 death of his mother.
The concert will be conducted by music director James Knox Sutterfield and will feature professional soloists and chamber orchestra.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. For further information contact tickets@kentsingers.org.
Parking is available on the street, behind the church, and at the public library across from the Whittlesey Avenue church. St. John’s in New Milford is wheelchair accessible at the side entrance on Whittlesey Avenue. Accessible bathrooms are available on the same floor as the sanctuary.
The concert is made possible with support from the Department of Economics and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
