KENT, Conn.—The Kent Memorial Library Junior Room will present “Busy Bees!” Monday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m., a children’s program on bees, pollination and pollinators.
The event is co-sponsored by the Kent Conservation Commission.
Special guest beekeeper Catherine Wolko, also known as the Bee Lady, will introduce children to the workings of a honeybee colony as they learn what a beekeeper does, and why bees need protection.
She will discuss how bees are important as pollinators and explain how they communicate with each other.
This topic is especially important because of the current declining bee population.
“Children are often afraid of bees because they can be stung, but they should be encouraged to appreciate the importance of bees as pollinators in the production of our food,” said KCC Member Carol Franken.
Following the presentation, there will be a hands-on activity for children.
The program is geared to kids in Pre-K through Grade 3, but is open to all ages.
