KENT, Conn.—Plans for the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding are blossoming with the coming of spring, and the Kent Volunteer Fire Department is joining in the fun.

The Kent Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Firemen’s Ball on June 13 this year. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, a Heritage Dinner, the Grand March and dancing. Archive photo.

The 115th KVFD Firemen’s Ball will be influenced by the nation’s anniversary theme and will be held on the evening of Saturday, June 13, at the firehouse at 28 Maple Street. Members plan all year for this, their largest fundraiser, an ever-popular event that sees much of Kent turn out for the festivities.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m., with a Heritage dinner following at 7 o’clock, the Grand March at 8, and then dancing the night away to a live band.

A new event this year at the ball will be a centerpiece/table decorating contest. Gather your tablemates, design and bring your own centerpiece. The firefighters encourage you to use the celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary as inspiration. There will be fun prizes for Most Creative, Most Patriotic and the People’s Choice award.
