KENT, Conn.—The Kent Volunteer Fire Department pulled out all the stops for its annual Firemen’s Ball last weekend.

While much of the format was traditional, this year the firefighters gave it a Revolutionary flair with a special menu focused on the nation’s 250th anniversary. Entrée choices included revolutionary roast beef, continental chicken Kiev, star-spangled shells and a liberty bean salad. Entrees were accompanied by patriotic grilled baked potatoes, a minutemen vegetable medley, covenantal chickpea pesto salad and freedom dinner rolls.

To top off dinner, dessert included stars & stripes celebration cupcakes and Fife ‘n Drum brownie sundaes.

The evening continued with dancing to the music of the award-winning band, Those Guys, and the traditional Grand March.

Local departments will compete in a variety of events, and there will be displays of antique fire apparatus, an old-time hand-pumper challenge featuring the New England States Veterans Firemen’s League, and activities for children.

The event will be sponsored by the KVFD, the Parks and Recreation Commission and CAMA.
