KENT, Conn.—The Kent Memorial Library will present a screening of the “Dawn of Impressionism, Paris 1874” Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at the library, temporarily located at 10-12 Landmark Lane.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own food and drink.
The Impressionists are the most popular group in art history, but to begin with they were scorned, penniless outsiders. The first Impressionists, “hungry for independence,” broke the mold by holding their own exhibition outside official channels in1874 and that was the year that changed everything.
Directed by Ali Ray, the film tells the story not only by historians and curators, but in the words of those who witnessed the dawn of Impressionism: the artists, press and people of Paris.
