The gallery show brings together a curated collection of art depicting the dog by a bevy of contemporary artists.

Artists in the show include—in order of presentation in the gallery—Maureen Dougherty, Daniel Murray, Chad Etting, Mickalene Thomas, Peter Gynd, Susumu Kamijo, Louis Fratino, Alex Katz, William Wegman, David Shrigley, and Polly Shindler.

“Man’s Best Friend” is a common title given to domestic dogs, referring to their millennia-long history of close relations, loyalty, friendship and companionship with humans.

The first recorded use of a related phrase is by Frederick the Great of Prussia in 1789. It was likely popularized by its use in a poem by Ogden Nash in 1941 and has since become a common colloquialism.

Ten percent of gallery profits from this show’s sales will be donated to support the work Beastly Rescue in Brooklyn does every day.
