KENT, Conn.—The annual town meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Blvd.

There are four items on the meeting’s call, two of which are just municipal housekeeping. Those items would authorize the Board of Selectmen and the Town treasurer to borrow money needed by the town and to make and deliver negotiable notes and appoint members to the Kent Park and Recreation Commission as required by local ordinance.
Candidates for membership on the commission are David Schreiber, Kevin Frost to fill an unexpired term, and Keith Johnson. All would have three-year terms ending Jan. 18, 2029. Additionally, Miranda Lovato and Jordan Iovino, are candidates for alternate positions with terms ending Jan. 21, 2027.
A third item asks voters to decide if the Town should acquire ownership of the Morehouse Cemetery on Richards Road and the Parcell Cemetery on Old Gorham Road.
In 2024, the former Cemetery Association disbanded and maintenance of six cemeteries—St. Andrew’s, the Congregational Church’s, Bulls Bridge, Flanders, Good Hill and Skiff Mountain—was transferred to a new town Cemetery Committee. It was later discovered that two additional cemeteries had been overlooked.Â
Both cemeteries are older, smaller sites that have fallen into neglect. Under Connecticut law, municipalities may acquire “abandoned cemeteries” to ensure they are properly cared for and to protect their historical characteristics.
The final item on the meeting agenda is a presentation of the Five-year Capital Plan. The capital plan is designed to set aside funds over periods of five years to meet major, non-operational, town expenses.
There is no zoom link for the meeting and attendance is in-person.
