KENT, Conn.—The Registrars of Voters have issued a notice of intent to use an electronic poll book checklist along with a paper voting list for early voting between Aug. 3 through Aug. 9 as well as on primary day, Aug. 11.
Voting in Connecticut officially starts July 21, when absentee ballots become available for eligible voters, with early in-person voting starting two weeks later. There is no same-day voter registration for primary elections; this is an option available only for general elections.Â
The primaries are closed, with only registered Democratic and Republican voters casting ballots for their respective party candidates. The winners on Aug. 11 proceed to the Nov. 3 general election.
Kent is represented by State Representative Maria Horn (64th District), State Senator Stephen Harding (30th District), and U.S. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (5th Congressional District), none of whom is facing a primary.
Governor Ned Lamont, who is seeking a third term, is being challenged by State Representative Josh Elliott, who represents the 88th District. Elliott is running as a progressive, campaigning on tax reform and policies aimed at helping working families.
Elliott qualified for the primary by securing more than 25 percent of the delegate vote at the state Democratic convention, but Lamont easily won the official party endorsement at the May convention.
The town’s two U.S. Senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, are mid-way through their six-year terms and not running for office.
