Over the past eight years, the event has raised more than $45,000 for the organization. As preparations begin for the 2026 race, organizers announced a new long-term fundraising goal of $100,000.

“Supporting the incredible work of Guiding Eyes is what the Polar Bear Run is all about,” said Stephanie Raftery, co-race director. “We’re excited to continue building this partnership.”

Rebekah Cross, donor relations director at Guiding Eyes and a graduate of the program, expressed gratitude for the event’s support. “Because of all the amazing runners who sign up, we’re able to breed, raise and train exceptional guide dogs,” she said.

For the first time, the race will feature a canine ambassador, Polar, a 5-month-old Labrador Retriever puppy. Polar will thank volunteers and participants while connecting runners to the organization’s mission.

Polar will undergo formal training with the goal of becoming a guide dog for someone with vision loss. Updates on Polar’s progress will be shared on the race’s Instagram, @lakewaramaugpolarbearrun.

The race is organized by TrailHeads, a Kent-based business that designs and markets hats, gloves, headbands and related accessories for runners and outdoor enthusiasts. For more information, visit lakewaramaugpolarbearrun.com.
