To the Editor:
I am writing in response to the recent negative remarks made about the guests in care at High Watch Recovery Center. The individuals receiving treatment there are not criminals, period. They deserve respect for the courage and determination it takes to confront addiction.

The guests at High Watch are individuals working every day to overcome tremendous challenges. They are brave, determined and committed to building healthier futures. They should be treated with dignity rather than suspicion or stigma. We should be proud that our town offers a place where people can rebuild their lives.
High Watch also contributes significantly to our community. They are members of the Kent Chamber of Commerce and regular supporters of local events. They serve as a partnering sponsor of the annual Pumpkin Run, providing homemade pumpkin soup for every participant. They support our fire department by providing lunch during the annual muster.Â
In addition, High Watch crafts all of the beautiful holiday stars displayed throughout the town, bringing joy to residents each year. And when our town needed Covid 19 vaccines, High Watch ensured clinics were available and staffed with caring individuals who guided residents through the process.
High Watch is a great asset to our community and the work they do helps people regain their lives and futures.
