KENT, Conn.—The Kent Art Association will display the fabric art project, “E Pluribus OM1 – 2026” created by multidiscipline artist Muriel Stockdale from Thursday, Dec. 11, through Sunday, Dec. 21, at the KAA gallery located at 21 South Main St.

Stockdale’s flag will be exhibited during the KAA’s Member’s Holiday Pop-Up Show and Sale. It celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and was built from nearly 1,000 hand tracings; each transformed into fabric and stitched into Stockdale’s interpretation of stars and stripes.
Every hand represents a story, a culture, a voice in the American chorus. Beside the flag, Stockdale keeps a book cataloging these hands, creating a living archive of the people who shape our nation. Those who stopped by to share their hand tracing, name and cultural history, will be able to see the result of their participation.
This flag is part of Stockdale’s ongoing series of USA art flags built to celebrate the diversity of the communities living together here in the United States of America. As an immigrant, Stockdale’s series of surprising U.S. flags invite viewers to consider a broader look at what patriotism is now and can be in the future.
This specific project for Stockdale was an exercise in the proxy action of re-stitching the United States of America. Having grown up in a monochromatic society in England she firmly believes the U.S.’s diversity enriches and embellishes our lives.
