KENT, Conn.—It has been 25 years since the horrific morning in 2001 when two hijacked planes slammed into Manhattan’s Twin Towers and a third aircraft was flown into the Pentagon near Washington, D.C.
Hijackers on a fourth plane were overcome by courageous passengers who sacrificed their lives when the plane was crashed into a field in Shanksville, Penn.
Nearly 3,000 victims were killed in the terrorist attacks, acts of violence that still reverberate through American society today. Among them was a young Kent resident, James Gadiel, who worked as an assistant trader for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 23rd floor of the North Tower. A memorial plaque honoring him and other victims is located outside the Kent Town Hall.
Kent will reflect on the events of that day Friday at 8:30 a.m. during a Remembrance Ceremony that will blend “reflection, community solidarity and hopeful remembrance.” The ceremony will be held at the Town Hall.
