FALLS VILLAGE, Conn.—The Center on Main is hosting a three-part beginner contra dancing school on the second Saturdays of September, October and November.

Join instructor Tom Scott and the locally famous Falls Village fiddler Rachel Gall for a three-part beginner’s contra dance school.
Gall, who picked up her first violin at age 3, discovered the New England Contra Dance Community at age 22 and has enjoyed many an evening fiddling, dancing and calling ever since.
Tom Scott has been dancing since December 2019. This will be his first formal class instruction, but he has helped teach many beginners at the local dances.
Classes will be held on the second Saturday of the month, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 12, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14.
In this series participants will learn the basic structure of the contra set, the roles of the dance partners, proper etiquette and the different figures that are used to move through the set. In the three-part series, they will be guided from novice to proficient in dancing the most common contra figures. Come solo or bring a friend.
Fees are on a $15-20 sliding scale. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions since the skills will build, but no one will be turned away. If you can’t make all three, come for the others anyway.
Registration is requested (but walk-ins are welcome!). Please register here.
