KENT, Conn.—Forest ecologist and bestselling author Ethan Tapper will speak Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room at Kent Town Hall.
This free public program will explore the science of forest ecology, responsible land stewardship, wildlife conservation and how healthy forests support resilient communities in the face of a changing climate.
Drawing on years of experience managing Vermont’s forests, Tapper will offer a discussion about what makes forests healthy, why active stewardship matters and how thoughtful conservation practices benefit wildlife, water quality, biodiversity and local communities.
His presentation will challenge common misconceptions about forests while providing practical, science-based perspectives that landowners and nature lovers alike can apply to their own relationship with the natural world.
“Ethan Tapper has become one of the leading voices translating complex ecological science into meaningful conversations that inspire action,” said Melissa Cherniske, program manager at the Kent Land Trust. “Whether someone owns woodland, enjoys hiking, or simply cares about the future of our environment, this presentation offers valuable insight into how we can all become better stewards of the landscapes we love.”
Tapper is widely recognized for his ability to bridge scientific research with compelling storytelling. As the manager of a 175-acre forest in Vermont, he specializes in ecological forestry and has dedicated his career to helping people better understand the dynamic nature of forests.
He is the author of the bestselling book, “How to Love a Forest,” which has earned national recognition for its examination of forest ecosystems, conservation and ecological resilience. He is also the author of “Willow and the Storm.”
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a discussion about forest conservation and stewardship, encouraging dialogue among community members, conservation professionals and local landowners.
While there is no admission charge, registration is required as seating in the Town Hall meeting room is limited. A Zoom option will also be available for those who prefer to attend virtually.
This program is presented through the collaborative efforts of the Kent Land Trust, the Conservation Commission and the Parks & Recreation Department.
