KENT, Conn.—Marvelwood students participated in the Yale Model United Nations at Yale University in New Haven from Jan. 15-18. It was the 16th time Marvelwood delegates have attended the conference.

This year they interacted with more than 2,000 delegates from around the country and the world. Ten student delegates attended. Glenn Sanchez, Lauren Galella and Alex Sanchez, all former YMUN participants themselves, were the faculty advisors.
For four days, the 10 representatives took a stand on a variety of issues and debated with other delegates using Robert’s Rules of Order and Parliamentary Procedure.
Weeks before the conference, delegates conducted research about their assigned countries and wrote position papers about various international topics. During the conference sessions, they spoke on topics including global warming, terrorism, women’s rights, drones and governmental corruption. Public speaking and coalition-building are important aspects of the conference.
In their “down time,” delegates explored Yale and New Haven, including tours of the university, visiting classes or museums, or attending shows. The YMUN dance is always a highlight for the delegates.
