TORRINGTON, Conn.—Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation (NCCF) has awarded $226,100 in grants to 31 local nonprofit organizations in its final grant cycle of 2025.

These grants, awarded three times per year, support essential services, education, arts and culture, health and human services, historic preservation, economic empowerment, and community enrichment across Northwest Connecticut.

Among the larger grants, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital received $25,000 to support the purchase of a paramedic intercept service vehicle from the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Khurshed Bhumgara Fund, Marion Wm. & Alice Edwards Fund, Lucia Tuttle Fritz Fund, and Douglas and Janet Roberts Fund.
And Northwest Connecticut YMCA received $25,000 to support a major renovation of the childcare space to increase safety and accessibility from the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Khurshed Bhumgara Fund.
Other awards included:
- The American Mural Project, $5,000 to support Connecticut at Work: Stories of Labor and Life, a workshop/live performance, film, and lecture series exploring Northwest Connecticut’s labor history.
- Arts for Learning Connecticut, $5,000 to support Grade 4 Arts Day, an enrichment program for 100 students from Region 1 schools.
- Bantam Lake Protective Association, $5,000 to support one-year of stormwater sampling of the Bantam Lake Watershed.
Canaan Child Care Center, $3,950,to support the cost of 12 field trips (one per month for one year). - David M. Hunt Library, $700 to support the cost of a bike rack.
- East Mountain Foundation, $7,000 to support start-up costs for a newly established hospice care and education center.
- Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry, $1,500 to support the purchase of an AED.
- Food Rescue US, $10,000 to support general operating expenses.
- Friendly Hands Food Bank, $15,000 to support general operating expenses (vehicle fuel and maintenance).
- Greenwoods Counseling & Referrals, $10,000 to support development and implementation of a strategic plan to ensure sustainability in the face of impending Medicaid cuts.
- Healing Meals Foundation Corporation, $3,500 to support the cost of providing 100 percent organic free or discounted meals for 12 weeks to income-eligible families in health crises.
- Hotchkiss Library of Sharon, $2,100 to support a series of Lunch and Learn at the Library programs for seniors in 2026.
- Housatonic Child Care Center, $10,000 to support general operating expenses.
- Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, $5,000 to support economic empowerment programming for 250 students from Regions 10 and 20, Oliver Wolcott High School, and Torrington High School.
- KidsPlay Children’s Museum,$7,500 to support expenses related to hosting FISH’s Holiday Toy Distribution
- Little Guild of Saint Francis, $6,100 to support technology upgrades and a wall-mounted otoscope/ophthalmoscope for animal care.
- McCall Behavioral Health Network, $3,500 to support CPR training equipment and certification materials for client-facing staff.
- Morris Historical Society, $6,000 to support an HVAC system for the museum building.
- Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, $7,500 to support the purchase of AEDs, EpiPens, jump kits, and first aid supplies.
- Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra. $5,000 to support three educational concerts serving approximately 1,400 elementary students from Torrington, Winsted, New Hartford, Harwinton, and surrounding communities.
- Project SAGE, $5,000 to support the cost of maintaining free and confidential client services programs (shelter, advocacy, counseling, prevention).
- Salvation Army, Torrington, $2,700 to support the purchase of food and household essentials for the pantry.
- Salvation Army, Winsted Service Unit, $5,000 to support the purchase of food and household essentials for the pantry.
- SOAR Educational Enrichment, $5,000 to support the staging of a full Broadway musical with Salisbury Central students (Grades 4–8).
- Susan B. Anthony Project, $10,000 to support the Rebuilding Lives Program providing housing assistance to individuals and families fleeing domestic violence.
- The Torrington Library, $3,050 to support the establishment of a toy lending library.
- Town of Winchester, $10,000 to support the Resident Assistance Fund.
- Warner Theatre, $10,000 to support general operating expenses.
- Winchester Center Historical Association, $6,000 to support exterior renovation of the cupola on the historic chapel and local history museum in Winchester Center.
