SHERMAN, Conn.— Sherman has many activities planned for the year-end holidays, including theater, concerts, visual arts and more.

To start the season off, the Sherman Players will present “Wreck the Halls,” written and directed by Bradford Blake, on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. from Friday, Nov. 21, through Saturday, Dec. 20. There will be Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on Nov. 30, Dec 7 and 14. To purchase tickets go to www.shermanplayers.org.
The Sherman Artists Association will hold its annual Open Studios Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7 at several locations in town. A preview of works by participating artists will open Friday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. It can also be viewed at www.shermanlibrary.org and www.shermanartists.org through Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Open Studios will run Dec. 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature 35 artists at various locations, including private studios, the Loft, Sherman Senior Center, Mallory Town Hall, and the Jewish Community Center (JCC).
Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of one-of-a-kind artwork, handmade gifts, and holiday treasures, with opportunities for live artist demos and free raffles.
The Sherman JCC will hold a Friendsgiving Dinner & Music with RivaJean on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. Go to www.jccinsherman.org for more information.
The Sherman Chamber Ensemble will be “Jazzing It Up” with its annual Thanksgiving Jazz concert on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. at Christ Church on Quaker Hill, 17 Church Road, Pawling, N.Y. There will be a second performance on Sunday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, 1 North Main St, Kent. Purchase tickets at www.SCEmusic.org
New this year is the Sherman First Annual Holiday Lights Contest, sponsored by the Sherman Commission for the Arts and Sherman Park and Rec. Sherman residents are encouraged to decorate their homes with holiday lights and register to be on a map. The deadline to register is Friday, Nov 28. The top three holiday light displays will receive prizes.
The maps will be available by Dec 6 and there will be a Town-Wide Lights Tour on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. with light refreshments available on the Sherman Town Green. Winners will be announced on Dec. 19.
Tickets are now available for the annual winter gala “Fire and Ice” slated for Dec. 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. It will be the Sherman Library’s 23rd winter gala and fundraiser, with cocktails, festive fare, live music and a silent auction. Early Bird tickets can be purchased before Nov. 14 at $125 each; after Nov. 14 the price increases to $135 each.
