KENT, Conn.—A crowd of residents and friends from out-of-town flocked to the Kent Community House Saturday, March 1, to show their support for one of the town’s nonprofit organizations.
The Kent Community Nursery School, which has provided care and education to children ages 3-5 since 1968, held a winter benefit, “A Winter Snow Ball,” to raise funds to continue its operation and programs. More than 100 people attended.
The Community House was decorated with a winter theme, featuring giant snowballs hanging from the ceiling, a few paper snowflake on the walls, projected snowflakes on the walls, and centerpieces crafted from slices of birch trees adorned with candles and other seasonal decor on tabletops.
The event featured hors d’oeuvres by Stephen Donzella, desserts by Rosie’s Kitchen, an auction, and music and dancing.
In a short welcome, Veronique Mertl, executive director and board president, thanked guests for attending, as well as applauding the teachers, Director Anna de Rham, and the board of directors.
“We have amazing teachers…these are nurturing, caring teachers who care about the development of the children, and that matters most,” she said.
After sharing a few words, she encouraged guests to get back to enjoying the festivities.
“We have food and drinks,” she said. “And now we’re going to turn the music up so you can enjoy dancing.”
